Who is Marina according to Marina?

Marina is curious, stubborn, messy, engaged — she's a friend, a sister, an athlete. But I think what describes me most is probably... curious.

When did you realize volleyball would become your life?
When I went to Club Italia at 15 — I moved to Milan and lived there for three years. I hoped it would become my life, but I hadn't quite realized it yet. I was still looking up to the older girls, aspiring to become like them. Then when I went to play away from home for real — in Florence, in Scandicci — that's when I understood it could truly become my job, my life, and keep being my passion.

A piece of clothing that instantly makes you feel like yourself?

A blazer. A nice oversized blazer.

How does an Olympic champion switch off from the rigor and discipline of athletic life during her free time? What helps me throughout the day is carving out moments for myself — listening to music, playing with my cat. Nature is probably what helps me disconnect the most, it's always been that way.

Your style in three words.

Relaxed, androgynous, and versatile.

What did you choose to wear from Tela today?

I chose this comfortable blazer and these wide-leg trousers, because they represent me the most — no doubt about it. A perfect balance between sport and elegance.

Muhammad Ali is your sporting idol. What has he taught you about sport and life?

Muhammad Ali has always been very important to me. He was the idol of our household, always. We watched his film I don't know how many times — both because he's an incredible athlete, one of the greatest in history, who achieved extraordinary results, but also, and above all, because he took a stand and spoke out on very sensitive issues that I believe we athletes have a great impact on and can do a lot of good with.

What makes you feel at home when you're travelling?

I have a necklace my grandmother gave me with a little angel, a ring my family and my brother gave me for the Olympics — with the five rings and the date — and this bracelet my mum gave me.

Three items always in your gym bag and your wardrobe.

In my gym bag: trainers, knee pads, and a hoodie to keep warm before training. In my wardrobe: I'm a huge fan of little tops, so loads of crop tops, really soft shirts, and trousers that drag along the floor.
